About

M y name is Ben - you likely already knew that. I love to tell stories, and I'm pretty long winded - it's a dangerous combination. I compulsively take things apart, my desk is usually littered with disassembled pens and other things that tend to function at their best when assembled.

I have a particular fondness for typefaces and their details - like the signature sloppy bowls and ears that define Goudy Old Style, or the sweeping ligatures of Caslon. I can't leave a restaurant or diner without first sorting my tables sweet & lows and jellies by brand, variety, and size, and I have a terrible habit of tearing up pieces of paper or napkins into small uniform pieces.

I've spent quite a bit of time outside of the country, getting yelled at by nuns and dodging old women with umbrellas in Spain, and arguing the disconnect between the available syllables and their pronunciation in the word "aluminum" whilst living in Australia. I found my home behind the camera during that time, as a more efficient vehicle to tell stories and remember things I'd seen.

I try not to sensationalize the craft - both in still images and moving ones - I'm of the point-and-shoot variety. I consider myself a communicator more so than a creator, and one that believes the harder you work the luckier you get.
